Gerald attended Childersburg High School and Won the Naismith Prep Player of the Year Award in his final season, where he averaged 28.7 points, 13.8 rebounds, 3.9 assists, 3.8 blocks and 3.2 steals. The highest amount of points he scored was 59 points (school record) and had 22 rebounds and 9 blocks. In his 3 seasons at Childersburg, he had an average of 26.7 points, 13 rebounds, 3.3 steals, 3.2 blocks and 2.8 assists.
